Beijing Winter Olympic Games

For the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, GTS was entrusted with providing over 5,000 square meters of high-performance temporary infrastructure at the Capital Indoor Stadium. Our structures served as mission-critical facilities, including the Media Press Center, Athlete Lounges, and Security Checkpoints.

The Engineering Challenge: Extreme Cold & Thermal Efficiency Operating in the heart of a Beijing winter, the primary challenge was ensuring thermal comfort and energy efficiency. Standard tents were insufficient for the sub-zero temperatures. The project demanded a solution that could maintain a stable, warm interior for athletes and media professionals while meeting the stringent safety and aesthetic standards of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The Advanced Solution GTS deployed a specialized Double-Layer Insulated Tent System, specifically engineered for Arctic-level conditions:

• Thermal Insulation Technology: We utilized a dual-layer PVC fabric system with an integrated thermal insulation interlayer. This design significantly reduced heat loss and prevented condensation, ensuring a constant comfortable temperature inside despite the freezing outdoor environment.

• Modular Versatility: The 5,000sqm space was divided into specialized functional zones. The Media Center required advanced acoustic management, while the Athlete Lounges focused on high-end interior finishing and climate control.

• Structural Safety: Built with reinforced aluminum frames, the structures were calculated to withstand high snow loads and winter wind pressures, ensuring 24/7 operational safety throughout the games.

The GTS Olympic project proved that modular architecture can meet the world’s most demanding climate and safety requirements. By providing a warm, secure, and professional environment at the Capital Indoor Stadium, GTS solidified its position as a premier supplier for global sporting events and high-performance temporary buildings.
